Section 1: The name of this organization shall be the “League of Milwaukee Artists.” It is an independent organization: it is not for profit; it does not have any political or religious purpose.
Section 2: The purpose of this organization shall be to bring together sincere creative artists for the mutual advancement of its members and its work. Our aims are to promote the interest, appreciation, and understanding of art in southeastern Wisconsin and to foster a desire for improvement among our members by working and exhibiting together.
Section 1: Professional Membership shall be open to all qualified creative artists who work in one or more of the following mediums: Visual forms included are, but not limited to, painting, drawing, pen & ink, sculpture, mixed media, collage, decollage, assemblage, artistic calligraphy, digitally enhanced images created through photography and or digital photography printed and published in single edition, conceptual art, and original print/print making in single edition. Specific consideration may be given to artists working in sculpture or ceramic design as long as their art is unique and not craft based in nature and application.
Professional Members are accepted through an established jury process. Privileges and rights for Professional Members include full voting rights, rights to apply for all exhibitions, access to membership meetings, access to submit articles for possible inclusion in the newsletter, listing on the League of Milwaukee Artists website, access to the private LMA group page on Facebook, and promotion on social media.
Associate Members shall be permitted and they may or may not be an artist. Privileges and rights for Associate Members include access to membership meetings, access to submit articles for possible inclusion in the newsletter and access to the private LMA group page on Facebook. An artist who applies but is not juried into the League through the established jury process, may also join as an Associate Member.
Affiliate Members such as vendors, galleries or other associated entities who provide resources to Professional Members are permitted. Privileges and rights for Affiliate Members include access to membership meetings, access to submit articles for possible inclusion in the newsletter, and access to the private LMA group page on Facebook.
Student Members with a minimum age of 18 and attending an institution as a student seeking a degree in art, are permitted. Upon graduation, any Student Member may join the League as a Professional Member with an additional jury requirement. Privileges and rights for Student Members include access to membership meetings, access to submit articles for possible inclusion in the newsletter, and access to the private LMA group page on Facebook.
Section 2: There shall be no distinction made between professional and non-professional artists, or art students; nor any prejudice because of race, color, or creed.
Section 3: Members may be expelled for conduct considered harmful to this organization or for conduct contrary to this constitution. This expulsion must be passed by two-thirds of the members present at a regularly scheduled meeting and must be governed by Robert’s Rules of Order.
Section 4: No member shall at any time use this organization for political or religious purposes.
Section 5: Age limit for all members shall be 18 years or older.
Section 1: The annual dues for Professional Members shall be $50.00 per year; The annual dues for Associate Members and Affiliate Members shall be $25.00 per year. The annual dues for Student Members shall be $5.00 per year.
Section 2: Annual dues are collectable and must be paid by December 31st. Payment after December 31st will be considered a late payment and will incur a late fee as determined by the Board.
Members not paying dues by March 30th will be dropped from the League of Milwaukee Artists and would need to reapply for membership if they wished to participate once again.
In special cases, arrangements may be made with the President to be passed by the Board.
Section 3: Prospective members, i.e. those considering applying to the League of Milwaukee Artists, are allowed to attend one meeting by paying a fee of $10.
Section 4: Elected Officers are exempt from paying dues during their term of office.
Section 1: The Officers of this organization shall be: President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Exhibit Chair, Membership Chair, Publicity Chair, Webmaster and Newsletter Editor.
Section 2: Officers shall be elected at a meeting, preferably in November, and shall hold their offices for the term of two years or until their successors are elected. They shall take office in January.
Section 3: The Board of Directors, or a Committee appointed by the President, shall nominate one or more candidates for each office at a general meeting in November. Additional nominations from the floor may be made at this time. Consent of nominees to serve, if elected, must be obtained.
Section 4: A vacancy occurring in any of the officer positions shall be filled by a Board of Directors appointment. Members filling vacancies shall hold office until the next general election.
Section 5: The officers are responsible for carrying out the operations of the League of Milwaukee Artists in a way that aligns with the purpose of the League. The specific duties for the officers are maintained by the Board of Directors and shall be made available upon request. Duties may change from time to time at the discretion of the Board of Directors
Section 1: The Board of Directors shall consist of: the President, Vice President, Recording Secretary, Treasurer, Exhibit Chair, Membership Chair, Publicity Chair, Webmaster and Newsletter Editor.
Section 2: Retiring Officers may be called on to form an advisory committee to the Board of Directors.
Section 3: The Board of Directors are responsible for controlling and monitoring the operations of the League of Milwaukee Artists and delegating a specific scope of authority and duties to the Officers.
Section 1: Committees may be deemed necessary to carry on the work of the League of Milwaukee Artists and may be authorized and appointed by the Board of Directors.
This constitution may be amended by a two-thirds vote of the members present at a regular meeting, provided notice has been given one month prior to the meeting at which action on same is to be taken.
